We were finally able to celebrate the holidays with the Birnbaum side last weekend. It was Jillian's first official road trip, so we set out to make the 3 hour drive to Des Moines. She slept for the first two hours, and then suddenly must have known that we hit a bad, slightly unexpected snow storm and woke up screaming. Mistake #1--Mommy thought she'd be fine sleeping in the backseat, so she sat in the front. Mistake #2--Daddy accidentally packed the diaper bag in the trunk. Both of these mistakes made it quite difficult to get a bottle together and feed her or offer any kind of comfort measures while we were trying to get somewhere to stop. Lots of endless screaming didn't help Daddy concentrate on the roads, which were horrible by this point. We finally were able to stop in Ames for a diaper change and to get a bottle ready. She smiled at me as I cringed and changed her diaper in the gas station bathroom. It's no secret I'm a clean freak and you can bet I had layers upon layers of protective stuff between her and that changing table :) She was pretty upset about being put back in the car seat and proceeded to continue her screaming. She was so mad that she didn't even want a bottle at that point. I told Daddy to turn on the radio and turn it up, and she liked the loud rock station along with me shushing in her ear and offering a pacifier--I had wised up by this point and got in the back seat. She was quiet within 5 minutes and the rest of the ride went well. I'm happy to report we arrived safely, and we enjoyed a great weekend with family. Here are some pics of the weekend. Oh, and just for the record, she slept the entire 3 hours home on Sunday evening.....but was up at 4:30 a.m. on Monday morning as a consequence!
Opening her stocking. She got some more cotton pad wipes for her sensitive buns

Looking at the cool Jayhawk story book she got

A family photo by the tree

Looking absolutely adorable while lounging in the boppy on the fleece blanket made by Grammy and her Aunties. It's a special blanket to play on at Grammy and Grandad's house.
