Washington D.C.

During our time in Maryland, we took two trips on the Metro into downtown D.C. On our first excursion, we decided it would be nice to take an evening stroll through the National Mall and see the sights before heading to dinner. The train ride wasn't a huge hit (minor screaming and excessive wiggling), but we survived. Dinner, on the other hand, wasn't one of our finer moments as a family. Jillian decided she was done with the entire experience and proceeded to loudly protest the meal. I basically held her (or wrangled her was more like it) while Matt ate, then he took her and packed us up while I shoveled in my meal. It was out of character for Jillian to be so uncooperative in a restaurant...she keeps us on our toes! Here are a couple pre-dinner shots of the evening.

The following week, we boarded the train again and headed to the National Zoo. Jillian tolerated the train ride by eating cheese and making friends. It was on this day that I officially decided she spoke her first true word: "hi". She says it clearly, regularly, and appropriately. In fact, she proceeded to say it to just about everyone who got on the train every time it stopped. Very cute, indeed.
She seemed to enjoy the zoo, especially the view from Daddy's arms.

In the Ape House. Look closely and you'll see she was face to face with a gorilla!
