A Bit of History
Right after we found out we were pregnant, we had a conversation about how we'd refer to the baby....didn't want to call he/she "it". "Matlia" was an easy choice--not just because it's half Matt and half Malia, but because of the history of the name. We've been using the name "Matlia" for about 10 years now. Back in the good old days of hanging out in our beloved Lawrence, KS you could often find Matt and I at Uno's on a Saturday evening enjoying some beer and the best mozzarella sticks in the world. We did this so often that the bartender knew us as regulars and always knew what we wanted before we ordered (Miller Lite for Matt, Boulevard Wheat with a lemon for me). Anyway, part of this ritual included some electronic bar trivia. We always played as a team, never individually against each other, and we were team Matlia. Since then, we've used Matlia as code for a number of purposes and functions--it's even how I have our home number programmed into my cell phone. But don't worry (I know some of you are already going there), we will NOT actually name our child Matlia :)
